About Our Bikes

Our stock always changing.

Our stock always changing.

A collection of bicycles parked indoors against a wooden wall.

We never know from week to week what we will have on hand. If we can't find something to fit you, come back next week.

It takes all kinds.

Our stock always changing.

Two bicycles locked together near a railing on a sunny day.

Non-suspension adult mountain bikes and hybrid bikes are the best. A bike that can be ridden year round and in any weather.

We give out relatively few kids bikes and our clients do not want bikes with skinny tires -- but we still accept these bikes and transfer them to other organizations that can use them.

The very best bikes that we receive we will try to sell to help pay for our operations.

We can always use more.

We can always use more.

Three children's bicycles lined up indoors beside a recycling bag.

We distribute up to 50 bikes a month. We would love to put the bikes cluttering up your basement or hanging in your garage into the hands of people who need them.

Cost

We give away bikes and accessories at no cost to clients with a voucher from a partner agency.  A bike that is free to a client may be worth an equivalent of $100 or more in parts and labor to Gate City Bike Co-op. The average bike requires 2 to 4 hours of repair time, sometimes much longer. A full overhaul takes 4-6 hours.

Most of the bikes we repair need parts. We repair and reuse parts whenever possible, but often we have to purchase parts.
